The heartbeat of Charlotte

First Night Charlotte 2012

First Night Charlotte (2012/2013)

I created this website to shed light on some of the cultural and community oriented activities taking place in Charlotte. My goal is to not only help others to find events they’d enjoy, but also to expose the heart of Charlotte and build community.

How would you describe our city? What makes it unlike any other place? It’s hard for me to put into words what it’s like to live here. A simple attempt would encompass traits such as fresh, peaceful, easy going, diverse and well….cool. Charlotte is cool.

The city is growing rapidly, attracting people like myself to move here in recent years and exciting those who have been around for some time. This is great, but it presents a small set back. Community, history and the depth of what has created the Charlotte we know is overshadowed by the “newness.” I appreciate new. But I also admire the story that stands behind old brick buildings in the urban core, street names that change at major intersections, local people who have made a mark on the city, our nation or world and most of all whatever it is that pulses the heart of Charlotte.

Now, I won’t pretend to uproot the story behind it all. But I will highlight community happenings in different areas of Charlotte to help define and in turn enhance the space we live in today. I sincerely believe that community oriented events are a perfectly organic and critical component to building a city that we can enjoy and claim as our home. First Night Charlotte was a perfect example of kids, friends, partners, families, media and entertainers all coming together for a common celebration that made Charlotte look more enjoyable than Times Square (IMO) on New Year’s Eve. My contributions to this site is a small attempt to expose similar activities – that make the Queen City a place to be.

Stay with me for the ride!
