Visual art: Hard Truths

Now-September 30
Special event on September 23

September 23: View photography, poetry, paintings, and visual and performing art by local artists that express their thoughts and responses to the Hard Truths exhibit. Mint Museum Randolph, 3-5 p.m. Children are free, $5 for adults. Details.

Exhibit: Thornton Dial depicts areas of American history and culture that are contradictory and complex through visual art. He worked as a laborer in southern factories and is living the later years of his life and career as an artist. His colorful and dimensional works tell stories from the War in Iraq, homelessness, the environment, global capitalism, the tragedy of 9/11 and more. The journey of his career and skills gives me hope that life isn’t over until it is over and new things are always on the horizon.  Details.
